Set "Violets" Beaded Bracelet and Earrings

Somewhere between the last snow and the first warm week, the violets come up. They don't ask permission and they don't wait for the garden to be tidy — they push through the dark earth at the edge of the path, and for a few weeks the ground is purple.

This bracelet holds that fortnight still. Three violets open across the wrist, the largest of them cupped around a faceted yellow crystal that catches light the way a real flower catches the first sun. Around them the beadwork turns to leaf and stem: green seed beads in three shades, tiny amber and white buds, a tendril curled into a loop at one end. Beneath it all is the dark earth — a black beaded lattice, worked in an open net so the band stays soft and bends with the arm.

The earrings are the two smallest violets in the bed. A single bloom each, a spray of leaves, and one faceted purple drop hanging below on a lever-back hook, so nothing works loose.

Every petal is built in the round from seed beads — no backing, no glue, no mould. The flowers stand up off the band the way flowers stand up off the ground, which is why no photograph quite prepares you for it in the hand.

Bracelet approx. 20 cm / 8 in long with clasp, approx. 5 cm / 2 in wide at the largest flower. Earrings approx. 5.5 cm / 2¼ in drop. Recommendations: do not wet, protect from chemicals and perfume, store flat so the petals keep their shape.
