"Bat" beaded earrings
"Bat" beaded earrings
The bat flies at dusk, when the light is low and the eyes play tricks — which is why hers are the only two gold beads in a body of black. Wings spread mid-flight, ears up, she hangs from the ear the way bats prefer to hang: confidently, and upside-down to everyone else's way of thinking.
Each bat is worked bead by bead in glossy black glass seed beads, the wings edged in scallops like torn night. Two tiny gold beads for eyes, catching the light exactly once per turn of the head.
No two identical. Arrives gift-ready.
Sold as a pair. Czech glass seed beads, stainless-steel ear hooks. Recommendations: do not wet, protect from chemicals and perfume, store flat. All items are handcrafted, so measurements are approximate, colors can vary and each one is unique.

Folk motifs carry meanings older than writing — poppies guard the home, wheat calls the harvest, birds watch over travellers.

Field note № 7
Beads for the night side
Black glass has a long memory: Victorian mourning jewellery was strung from it, and a black-ground gerdan makes every red burn brighter. Our skulls, bats and serpents are beaded exactly like the poppies — the same seed beads, the same hands in Ukraine — only the motifs have changed.
